We believe that everything is more fun at camp, even rain. It’s true. Today was a very rainy day, but even in the rain there is sunshine in the eyes and the hearts of our campers. The fact is, rain doesn’t really bother us at Highlander. It is part of the day, but it is not what we remember about the day. The rain makes the day different, special and honestly, a lot of fun.

Today was another amazing day at camp because of the rain. Today we stomped in rain puddles without a care of messing up mom’s floors. We slid in the mud during a messy game of soccer and laughed the entire time. We danced under the raindrops and didn’t care who was watching. Because of the rain, we played harder, laughed more and cared less about saving the story to social media because these stories were only meant to be shared at camp!

Today I am thankful for the rain. Some may say that you have to experience the rain to appreciate the sunshine. At Highlander, we appreciate the rain because it requires us to be the sunshine! The campers and staff on this mountain are the sunshine of our lives! Their light, love and joy radiate throughout this mountain even when skies are gray. Oh how I love them…please don’t take my sunshine away!

Favorite Details of the Day

  • Reflect: To stay out of the rain, this morning’s reflect was held in the dining hall. Mac shared the story of the carpenter building his home. He spent his entire career putting in his best work, but for his final project he cut corners and did shoddy work just to get the job done. It turns out the house he was building was for himself. Had the carpenter known, he would have put more care and precision into his work. We are all in the process of building our lives. Will you put in the time and care it takes to create a life of fulfillment and joy? Or will you cut corners and take shortcuts just like the carpenter did? Your life today is the result of your attitudes and choices in the past. Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today. So the question is: what kind of life do you want to build?
  • Meals: This morning we started our day with biscuits and gravy, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit. We enjoyed turkey and cheese ciabattas, potato chips and cucumbers and carrots with ranch for lunch . For dinner we enjoyed beef and broccoli, fried rice, egg rolls, and an asian salad.
  • Weather: It was a rainy day today at Camp Highlander, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying every moment of fun!
  • EP: Hooooowdy! It’s time for Square Dance! Tonight was the first Square Dance of B session, and it was a blast! The entire camp got together and danced the night away to Footloose, Proud Mary, and all of our favorite country tunes. What an amazing night!
